First love

In her wonderful, wonderful video about the Pacific Crests Trail, Elina Osborne describes the first thru-hike, as one's first love.

I spent a year mourning this relationship, exacerbated by all the complex stupid rules imposed by the French administration. I thought I wouldn't be able to leave this year. And at the last moment, the people who mean the most to me pushed and allowed me to leave again.

First of all, thank you. I couldn't do anything without your support.

But now, there's apprehension: coming back to the PCT, will it be like getting back together with an ex? In that case, will I find myself dissatisfied, forced to accept that the trail has changed, and so have I, that it is now happier with other hikers, trodden by new feet, subject to new rumors, trends, and whims?

The trail is a fickle lover, but even if it's a mistake, my heart beats stronger at the thought of meeting it again. And I am ready to fall in love with it again.
